BATTLE WITH WILD HOGS
A lot of hogs belonging to Mr. C[harles] H[enry] Dressler, who lives near Covington, after roaming for months on Lick Mountain, became entirely wild, and, as will be seen, savage and dangerous. Mr. Dressler desiring to kill them, instructed Mr. Crocket Mitchell to do the work.

On coming up with them, Mr. Mitchell shot one of them down. The second ball entered the mouth of another animal, carrying away its tushes, which enraged his swineship and worked up its passion to the fighting point. The wounded hog sprang at Mr. Mitchell, apparently aiming at his throat, who, being muscular, threw the brute back upon the ground. But before Mr. Mitchell could draw his knife from the belt, the hog made two more vigorous attacks upon him. Retreat now became Mr. Mitchell’s only chance, which he did, the animal pressing him at every step and gaining upon him. During the retreat Mr. Mitchell drew his knife and, finding the hog again up with him, turned and gave battle, the hog seized him by the arm in the struggle. Finally the animal fell dead by a well-directed thrust of the knife.

The foregoing particulars were obtained from Mr. George. W[ashington] Dressler, WHOSE FATHER WAS KILLED BY A HOG SOME YEARS AGO. ( This would be Peter Dressler who married Patsy Fleet, the son of Charles Dressler and Molly Borougliker who died 16 July 1874)(Charles Henry Dressler and George Washington Dressler were brothers.)
