The Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society (AHGS) is active in preserving the genealogical records of Alleghany County and
the surrounding areas in Virginia and West Virginia. You are invited to visit our Library and Archives at the location below.
Our hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM – 3 PM.
We try to accommodate by appointment those guests who travel some distance and cannot visit Covington on these days.

Dr. William Ellis began his medical practice in Covington on August 25th, 1930. He provided unparalleled service to those in need of medical care for over six decades. He came to Covington when he was 3 years old and graduated from Covington High School and served as team physician beginning in 1946. After taking pre-med courses at the College of William and Mary, he attended the Medical College of Virginia, receiving his M.D. there in 1929. His commitment and dedication to the community will always be remembered.
